TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR — CHOIR ALBERTA

Choir Alberta is currently seeking a Technology Director.  This casual part-time position involves the management, maintenance, and acquisition of the organization’s technology, both in the office and on-site for some programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, areas of work include:

  • maintaining the Choir Alberta network, which includes a 4 workstations, a network printer, and remote desktop access
  • performing software updates and upgrades
  • procuring and installing hardware updates
  • assisting with the organization’s website
  • managing the organization’s CRM and library databases
  • maintaining mobile technology including laptop computer and recording equipment
  • providing on-site assistance with Choir Alberta technology
  • recommending changes and upgrades to existing technological infrastructure

The successful applicant will possess a well-rounded knowledge of the relevant technologies, a desire to learn, and will be a strong team player with a positive attitude.  Current technologies and platforms include:

  • Windows 7/Server 2012R2/Server 2008R2 with Remote Desktop Services
  • Office 365
  • QuickBooks
  • Adobe Creative Suite and Premiere Elements
  • CiviCRM & Drupal
  • ASP classic & MS SQL database (lending library)

The successful candidate will be required to prioritize tasks, multitask, and budget time appropriately. An interest in the arts is an asset but not required.

The successful candidate will work from Choir Alberta’s Edmonton office or via remote desktop. In some cases, the successful candidate may be required to be on site for portions of Choir Alberta programs. As a casual part-time position, typically 12-15 hours are required on a monthly basis. Hours of work are flexible.

Remuneration will be determined based on skills and experience.

CHOIR DIRECTOR — THE JOSEPHBURG MEN'S CHORUS 

The Josephburg Men’s Chorus is seeking only its third choral director in 38 years. The men have performed in over 150 venues from Vancouver Island to the Maritimes, but the current focus is on performing in the Edmonton area.  We are a TTBB adult men's choir, although not a "Barbershop Choir".  We have a qualified accompanist.

The new director will be expected to take us in a new direction with more popular music that will appeal to more potential singers and to a broader audience of younger (40+) people. This process began a year ago with the addition of a new accompanist, some new music, a few new singers, a new website and some new performance venues.

The group draws from Sherwood Park and Ft Saskatchewan and practices Mondays, 7:30 – 10 pm, September to April in Josephburg with 10 to 12 performances annually. Carpooling is available from Sherwood Park and Ft. Saskatchewan.

The candidate is expected to have led choirs before, and/or to have formal music training. A sense of humour is an asset.

BUSINESS MANAGER — DA CAMERA SINGERS

Da Camera Singers is seeking a passionate, energetic and creative individual to serve as Business Manager for the choir.

The Choir: Since its inception in 1961 Da Camera Singers has established a strong presence in the Alberta choral community and holds the distinction of being Edmonton’s longest standing chamber choir. Under the artistic direction of Dr. John Brough, the choir provides accomplished, adult singers the opportunity to perform a diverse repertoire that encompasses classical and contemporary music, from the Renaissance to the 21st Century. In addition to our own three-concert season, the choir has performed with renowned musical organizations including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Alberta Baroque Ensemble, Pro Coro Canada, Spiritus Chamber Choir (Calgary), and Ariose Women’s Choir. The choir has travelled to England and Scotland (2007) and recently completed an international tour to Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic (2015).

The Position: Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Business Manager’s primary responsibilities include marketing and promotion, administration / operational management, concert management and fundraising.

Da Camera Singers has recently initiated a strategic planning and visioning process to assist us in charting our musical course, and to position ourselves in a vibrant and competitive choral market in the Edmonton area. The Business Manager will be responsive to the vision and strategic direction, and essential in its implementation.

The Person: In addition to being passionate about the arts and choral music, we are looking for someone who is creative and enthusiastic, and who will be organized, proactive and innovative in supporting the vision of the artistic director and the choir. Attention to detail, strong communication and networking skills and the ability to demonstrate initiative are essential.

The ideal candidate will have experience in arts and cultural management and/or the not-for-profit sector, marketing; general administration. A related degree or diploma is preferred.

Compensation: This is a part-time position (8-10 hours/week over 12 months); Salary to be negotiated.

CONDUCTOR — VOX HOMINIS (CANTILON CHOIRS)

Cantilon Choirs is seeking a conductor for the newly-formed men’s choir, Vox Hominis.  This choir has just completed its first full season which included performances with ProCoro Canada (Stayin’ Alive), the Cantilon family of Choirs (Ceremony of Carols, Failte, Sound of Music) and the ESO (Carmina Burana).  Vox Hominis is eager to explore music for men’s voices of the highest caliber, welcoming singers of all ages who share the desire to create excellence in the choral art.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Minimum of five years related experience in choral conducting; piano proficiency is desirable.
  • Exceptional conductor and vocal pedagogue with working knowledge of lyric diction (German, French, English, Latin).  Demonstrates a professional standard and dynamic understanding of the male voice.
  • Confident and charismatic communicator with an ability to increase Vox Hominis’ profile on a local and national level, and to recruit new members.
  • Provides support and works collaboratively with the Artistic Director of Cantilon Choirs to facilitate the effective and efficient operations of the choir. Produces artistic programs within established budget parameters while reporting to the Board of Directors.
  • Conducts weekly rehearsals (Thursdays 7:00-9:30pm) from September-May.

Education requirements:

  • Master’s degree (or above) in Music (choral conducting, vocal performance, etc.) or equivalent experience

CHORAL DIRECTOR — CHORAL MORPHOSIS

Are you enthusiastic, have experience teaching music or leading choirs, and would enjoy working with a wide variety of people?  If so, apply to be the Choral Director of Choral Morphosis and Choral Arts.  Choral Morphosis is open to anyone 16 and older with a love of music, singing, and movement, no matter what their musical ability.  This is a well-established, non-auditioned program that prides itself in welcoming all ability levels.  Choral Arts is a more advanced arts program for those 16 and older who are looking for more challenge.  It incorporates part singing, more in-depth movement, musical theatre, script reading and acting. 

Musical training is essential for this position, and experience in working with persons with disabilities would be an asset.  The programs rehearse on Saturday mornings, and this is a one-season contract, from September 2017 to June 2018.
