CHORAL DIRECTOR — SHERWOOD PARK FESTIVAL SINGERS

Festival Singers is looking for a qualified choral director starting in August, 2017 for a paid contract position. Festival singers is a well established, non-auditioned, SATB adult choir located in Sherwood Park. We run two semesters annually, Sept - Dec and Jan - May. Rehearsals are once per week on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 pm at Festival Place. Major performances occur in December and May, with the possibility of other community involvement.

Qualifications:

  • bachelor's degree in music and/or experience conducting a community choir
  • a willingness to teach music rudiments and vocal technique
  • enjoy working with adults -sense of humour

ADMINISTRATOR — VOCAL ALCHEMY

Edmonton Vocal Alchemy Society (Vocal Alchemy) seeks to contract an Administrator beginning August 1, 2017 for a season-long renewable contract position. Vocal Alchemy was created by a group of experienced singers convinced that a welcoming attitude is compatible with making great choral music. Since our founding in 2002, our membership and leadership have seen much change and growth. But as a group, we have never wavered in our conviction that singing together is transformative. Whatever we sing, our aim is the same: to delight our audience and grow as singers.

The choir has just completed its 15th Anniversary season (and ten years under the direction of Jordan Van Biert) and boasts 100 singers of a wide variety of levels of experience. VA produces an ambitious three-concert season and regularly collaborates with a variety of professional instrumentalists and vocalists. The non-profit Edmonton Vocal Alchemy Society is a registered charity with multiple artistic staff, numerous suppliers and contractors, and an ongoing need for strong administrative support to continue the excellence of the organization. The Administrator will provide support to the Artistic and Executive Director, and to the volunteer leaders who are crucial to the successful operation of the choir.

Beginning August 1, 2017 for a season-long renewable contract position: 12 months, averaging 8-10 hours per week. The position will require some flexible daytime hours, most Tuesday evenings, and 5-6 weekends (dates available on request), however the majority of required work can likely be performed at the contractor’s time and place of choice. Compensation to be in line with skills and experience.

CHORAL ASSISTANT — VOCAL ALCHEMY

Vocal Alchemy is a community chorus in Edmonton, under the direction of Jordan Van Biert. Numbering 100 singers of a wide variety of levels of experience, the choir produces an ambitious three-concert season and regularly collaborates with a variety of professional instrumentalists and vocalists.The mission of Vocal Alchemy is to foster an appreciation for the art of choral music both for those who partake in singing with the choir and those who attend concerts.The choir rehearses on Tuesday nights, 7:00 PM at Unitarian Church of Edmonton: 10804 119 St. Rehearsals for the coming season begin in September. Vocal Alchemy is seeking a Choral Assistant for the 2017-2018 season, to assume duties including singing with the choir, leading sectional rehearsals, taking full rehearsals on an occasional basis, general assistance to the Artistic Director and (depending on skill and experience) conducting in performance. We are seeking expressions of interest from qualified individuals, and will structure the position around the attributes of the ideal candidate.This is intended to be a 9-month contract position.The ideal candidatewill have

  • significant musical and choral experience
  • choral conducting training and experience
  • score reading ability
  • an ability to work with singers of a variety of levels of experience
  • an engaging personality and an interest in teaching
  • an interest in contributing to the artistic endeavors of the choir
  • an interest in further developing his/her skills

A high level of vocal and/or keyboard skill will be an asset.Depending on the other commitments of the ideal candidate, salary and workload may be negotiable. CHORAL DIRECTOR — CHORAL MORPHOSIS

Are you enthusiastic, have experience teaching music or leading choirs, and would enjoy working with a wide variety of people?  If so, apply to be the Choral Director of Choral Morphosis and Choral Arts.  Choral Morphosis is open to anyone 16 and older with a love of music, singing, and movement, no matter what their musical ability.  This is a well-established, non-auditioned program that prides itself in welcoming all ability levels.  Choral Arts is a more advanced arts program for those 16 and older who are looking for more challenge.  It incorporates part singing, more in-depth movement, musical theatre, script reading and acting. 

Musical training is essential for this position, and experience in working with persons with disabilities would be an asset.  The programs rehearse on Saturday mornings, and this is a one-season contract, from September 2017 to June 2018.
