The Alberta Youth Choir is the province's honour choir for singers ages 16-22. AYC provides a unique opportunity for outstanding young singers from across the province to join forces in the pursuit of excellence in choral music under the direction of a renowned conductor. The 2017 Alberta Youth Choir was composed of 61 outstanding choristers from 29 different choirs and 14 towns and cities, including Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, and Camrose.
This year, the choir was be conducted by Dr. Elroy Friesen, director of Choral Studies at the University of Manitoba.
In an effort to prevent an increase in AYC registration fees in spite of steadily rising program costs, we have launched the Adopt-a-Chorister Campaign. Every adoption makes it possible for a talented young chorister from across the province to take part in this unique and valuable musical experience.
2017 Choristers participate in a 2-day rehearsal weekend in Red Deer, followed by a 3-day residency in Red Deer. AYC will perform in a Gala Concert at the RDC Mainstage on October 28, 2017.
The cost to adopt an AYC Chorister is $95.00.
As a thank you for your support, contributors to the campaign will receive two complimentary tickets to AYC 's performance at the Music Conference Alberta Gala Concert. You will also receive recognition in all AYC concert programs and social media! Tax receipts for a portion of your donation are available upon request.
More information on the 2017 choristers will be available in June!
