What is Run for Music?
Run For Music is a fundraising and advocacy project of Choir Alberta. Participants will take part in a 5 km run, a 5km walk, or a 10 km run. Unique in its design, while advocating for the importance of choral music, funds raised through Run For Music pledges are split between Alberta choirs and Choir Alberta.
How does it work?
All RFM participants will register as a part of their choir's team. The team then works along with other members of the choir to collect pledges both for individual team members and for the choir's team in general. In this way, entire choir can get involved in supporting their team, either through collecting pledges for the team, making a donation to one or more of the team members, or by being at the start and finish lines to cheer their team members on!
Pledges are split between the choir that raised them and Choir Alberta. The idea behind Run For Music from a fundraising perspective is that it raises money both for individual choirs as well as for Choir Alberta programs and services that support Alberta's choirs (like Choralfest, the Alberta Youth Choir, the choral library, workshops, etc.). With that in mind, here are some key bits of information:
- No pledge minimums!
- The more you raise, the more your team gets
- up to $2,500, your team receives $50%
- $2,501 to $5,000, your team receives 55%
- $5001 to $7,500, your team receives 60%
- over $7,500, your team receives 70%
- teams of 10 or more get a 5% bonus
Registration Fee | team registration fees are processed following the event and are based on the final number of team participants:
- up to 10 people, $250
- up to 15 people, $300
- up to 20 people, $350
- up to 25 people, $400
There are lots of ways to be a part of Run For Music!
- become your team captain
- sign up as a member of your team (to walk 5k, run 5k, or run 10k)
- pledge members of your team
- volunteer at the event
- sign up as part of a small group from your choir to sing along the route
Note that choirs/choral organizations for which funds are being raised through Run For Music must hold an active membership in Choir Alberta.
Pledges may be collected online or with a paper pledge form.
Choir Alberta provides tools to help participants garner pledges, including a sample email signature and Facebook status updates.
Prizes will be awarded to the team that raises the most overall and to the team with the highest per person fundraising amount.
Music on the Run
What would a run/walk in support of choral music be without some music along the way? As participants make their way through the course they will be met by singers of all ages performing all sorts of music!
Choir Alberta will issue disbursement cheques within 60 days of the event. Teams may request an early disbursement, particularly if their choir is taking part in a special project or tour to which the funds are to be allocated.
