In celebration of Canada's sesquicentenary, Choir Alberta established the Canadian Collection. Support for this project began with a grant generously provided by the Canada Summer Jobs Program through which a summer student was hired to establish the Collection. As part of the project, a guidebook for 150 of the pieces in the Canada Collection was developed, as were a series of repertoire lists by voicing and genre.
Choir Alberta believes strongly in the importance of including Canadian choral music when programming for any choir. It is our hope that conductors and music educators will be able to use Choir Alberta’s Canadian Collection as a resource to familiarize themselves with and gain access to some of Canada’s greatest choral music!
The Collection represents a variety of genres, musical styles, and composers – with everything from older favourites to contemporary works written within the past decade! All pieces listed are available for rental through Choir Alberta’s Lending Library.
We hope this resource is helpful to you. and that you enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed creating it!
The guidebook is available on our Members Only page. If you are currently a member, the password was provided in your membership confirmation email. If you are not currently a member, consider joining us!
Canadian Collection repertoire lists
These repertoire lists were developed with the assistance of Choir Alberta members to highlight some of the outstanding titles in the Canadian collection. They by no means include all of the titles in the collection, but we hope they will provide some helpful programming ideas.
