Calgary Girls Choir - Dolce

No experience is required to sing in Dolce and no audition is required to register. Dolce’s rehearsals are scheduled Mondays 5:45 – 7:00 pm or Tuesdays 5:45 – 7:00 pm. All rehearsals take place at Knox Presbyterian Church – 3704 37 Street SW. In our Kodály-based program, Dolce singers develop musicianship through traditional children’s folk songs, art songs, nursery rhymes, and movement games. Choral training is developed with an emphasis on the artistic refinement of performance, vocal technique, inner hearing, rhythm, and learning Solfège – a relative pitch system which uses pitch syllables (do, re, mi, etc.) to develop a keen musical ear. Choristers will participate in vocal coaching, diction, language & theory learning during rehearsals and will be provided with supplementary aural, written and video materials. Additional learning opportunities with guest conductors, clinicians and other specialists will be offered. |

This friendly meeting will ensure that we find the best fit for your daughter’s voice in the choir. Viva’s rehearsals occur on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 pm at Knox Presbyterian Church – 3904 37 Street SW. Viva (lively) choristers, in grades 4 to 7, enjoy a program designed to advance their musical skills and build a wide and varied range of repertoire. They rehearse once a week to focus on the development of vocal technique and musicianship through artistic interpretation and performance. As choristers learn Solfège – a relative pitch system which uses pitch syllables (do, re, mi, etc.) they develop a keen musical ear and further improve their ability to read music. Their beautiful singing is a model for all, and evidence of the high standard that can be achieved by young singers. Founded in 1997 by Catherine Glaser-Climie, Cantaré Children’s Choir is widely known as one of Calgary’s premiere performing arts institutions. Nurturing young minds from Kodaly classes at age 3 until high school graduation and beyond! Cantaré‘s central tenet: “More Than Music” emphasises using collective singing to develop young people into sensitive, creative, and engaged artists who are passionate justice seekers and informed global citizens. Singers develop a comprehensive musical foundation at an early age so they can thoughtfully engage with numerous musical styles from around the world in their youth. Choristers in Cantaré become comfortable tackling masterworks of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic Periods along with Contemporary gems - including 18 commissioned works. The choir extensively explores global political and musical history in rehearsals, connecting a budding worldview with their increasing sophistication of musical expression. Cantaré’s award-winning program has received a host of accolades including First Prize in the National Music Festival. In its vibrant musical community, Cantaré is the proud partner of Calgary Opera and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, producing over 70 productions with the two companies in the choir’s 26-year history. The choristers are the Resident Artist of the Field Of Crosses Memorial Project, singing on GlobalTV’s Remembrance Day Broadcast every year, and stewarding the Act Of Remembrance in their communities. Cantaré continues to nurture a network of alumni excellence across the world in all career fields, our alumni have gone on to represent us and sing together in the National Youth Choir of Canada, the World Youth Choir, and in a host of amateur and professional choirs across Canada. Nurturing young minds from Kodaly classes at age 3 until high school graduation and beyond! Cantilena is our introductory ensemble for children ages 6 to 10. Basic skills in musical understanding and performance begin here and provide a wonderful framework on which children can build. The goal of our once weekly rehearsals is to instill a love of singing. A focus on unison song, an encouraging atmosphere, high energy activities and selected performance opportunities result in a pleasurable experience for all. Cantilena rehearses once a week for 75 minutes. Cantaré‘s central tenet: “More Than Music” emphasises using collective singing to develop young people into sensitive, creative, and engaged artists who are passionate justice seekers and informed global citizens. Westside Concert Choir
The Westside Concert Choir, formerly the Westside Children’s Choir, was formed in 1994 to provide an affordable, high-quality choral music education program for youngsters whose busy lives could only accommodate one rehearsal a week. The choir is unique in many respects: there are no auditions, tours, fund-raising activities, or volunteer commitments by singers or parents. Fees are affordable for most families and financial assistance is available upon request. Children from grades 3 through 5 participate in the Westside Junior Choir with the Westside Senior Choir including singers from Grade 6 and up. All directors and accompanists are professional musicians and teachers.

Cantares Latin Choir is a member of Cantares Venezuelan Cultural Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks the enlightening of Calgary’s multiculturalism by promoting Latin-American culture with emphasis in the Venezuelan folklore. The Choir was established in June 2010, building on the long-term choral experience of its founders. Under the direction of Juan Sosa, Cantares has participated in all editions of the Calgary CarolFest since 2010 and Alberta ChoralFest since 2011. The Choir was also invited as an official participant at the XV International Choral Kathaumixw in July 2012 (Powell River, BC), to compete in the Folk & Cultural Traditions category. Since 2013, Cantares traditionally hosts “Let’s Sing Together” Choral Encounter in May and “Cantares Christmas Charity Concert” in December of each year. In July of 2109, the choir participated at the Unisong Festival at parliament Hill in Ottawa. In April 0f 2023, Cantares participated at the first edition of the Kantorei Festival at the Bella Concert Hall of the Mt Royal University in Calgary. Led by the dynamic Dr. Alex Shawn, SINGchronicity is a newly formed treble choir that is set to make waves in the Calgary music scene. We are a group of accomplished musicians dedicated to creating beautiful and engaging music, and we want YOU to be a part of our exciting journey! We rehearse Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Dalhousie, NW Calgary. Our inaugural concert is scheduled for April 2024, featuring dazzling Broadway medleys that are sure to captivate audiences. As a member of SINGchronicity, you'll have the opportunity to showcase your vocal talents in a memorable performance. The ability to read music is a must. Cum Vino Cantus (CVC) is a community-based, non-auditioned adult choir with high expectations in a casual atmosphere. Its repertoire is varied, from traditional to modern to experimental.
CVC is a choir for experienced choristers/musicians; members are expected to proficiently sight-read choral music and have a background including some music technique. Members are adults (18+) who love choral singing and want to drink wine and make friends. CVC is 2SLGBTQAI+ affirming and welcomes people of all backgrounds and identities. We are a fun group of singers ranging in age from 18 - 85, located in Calgary, Alberta. We sing a variety of genres, including a few Dutch numbers thrown in! We have performances at Christmas and in the Spring, and also enjoy performing a few times per year at Seniors' Residences. Every few years we enjoy travelling either to Europe, the US, or more locally in our own province or elsewhere in Canada. |
Knox Choir
The Knox Choir, an emblem of harmony and tradition, has resonated through the heart of downtown Calgary for over a century! Our rich repertoire embraces diverse genres, from sacred hymns to contemporary anthems, reflecting the evolving spirit of our congregation. From all walks of life, our choir unites in song, sharing the gift of music with our community. The Knox Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings and provides musical leadership on Sundays from September to mid-June. In past years, the singers have participated in massed choirs, performing at Carnegie Hall in 2016 and Ottawa’s Shaw Centre and National Arts Centre in 2017.

The Mount Royal University Conservatory's Zhi-Yin Choir is a registered non-profit organization based in Alberta - established in 2004. Led by founder and conductor Shana Yang, the choir has become an integral part of the Calgary community, particularly within the local Chinese communities. Comprised of over 60 choristers, the Zhi-Yin Choir is a mixed-voice adult choir with a focus on popular and classical music, predominantly in the Chinese language. The name "Zhi-Yin" reflects the choir's aspiration of fostering friendships, sharing musical experiences, and promoting multiculturalism in Canada. The choir provides vocal coaching to its members through its conductor and guest speakers. Additionally, the Zhi-Yin Choir annually hosts concerts in Calgary and has also performed in other cities including Edmonton, Vancouver, and New York. |
