Conducting apprenticeships

The Conducting Apprenticeship Program provides an opportunity for emerging Alberta choral conductors to work with the Guest Conductors of the Alberta Children's Choir, Alberta Treble Choir, and Alberta Youth Choir. These opportunities are open to graduate-level or early-career conductors to help further develop their existing skills under the direction of renowned conductors and pedagogues.

Successful applicants will rehearse with the choir (ACC, ATC, or AYC) and conduct one piece in concert. In addition to their work with full choir, the Apprentice Conductor may be asked to lead sectional rehearsals, work with soloists, and provide assistance in the teaching and performance of the choir’s concert program. Apprentice conductors will receive a private conducting coaching session with the Guest Conductor.

We are currently receiving Apprentice Conductor applications for:
  • Alberta Youth Choir (Dr. Rachel Rensink-Hoff, Guest Conductor) — Oct 20-22, 2022 in Edmonton
  • Alberta Treble Choir (Robert Filion, Guest Conductor) — Feb 9-12, 2023 in Edmonton
  • Alberta Children's Choir (guest conductor TBC) — Apr 20-23, 2023 in Calgary

There is no application/registration fee for the Conducting Apprenticeship Program.  However, please note that successful applicants will be responsible for all costs pertaining to their transportation and accommodation for the duration of the program.
