Non-auditioned community choirs for grades 1(K) to 9, auditioned group for grades 5-12. We learn about music, singing, and performing (and life!) through concerts and community outreach.
Central Alberta Homeschool Junior Choir

Central Alberta Homeschool Choirs rehearse in two locations in Central Alberta. Currently, those two locations are Wetaskiwin and Bentley.  Students must be registered as home education students or with an online program, in order to be part of these choirs.  All are welcome, regardless of experience and I do not audition prior to acceptance.  The choirs do a weekend of outdoor concerts in October (yes really!!) as well as concerts in December.  Both sets of concerts are fundraisers for the Christian Life Centre in Mwanza, Tanzania which takes in street boys from the city of Mwanza.  The content of the music is almost exclusively Christian.  Typically, we work with the Rosedale Valley String Orchestra for Christmas shows.

The Augustana Choir

The Augustana Choir is our premiere, auditioned chamber choir, performing an exciting and eclectic range of a cappella choral music from renaissance chant to the latest in contemporary choral compositions. The choir, led by Dr. John Wiebe, is considered to be one of Western Canada's most successful undergraduate university choirs.

An active touring tradition has led The Augustana Choir to perform concerts for local, national, and international audiences: in January 2019 the choir toured Cuba; in May 2014 The Augustana Choir was honoured to accept an invitation to perform at PODIUM 2014 in Halifax, the national choral conference of Choral Canada; and in May 2012 the choir traveled to Hungary. The recording, Idegen orszagban: In a Foreign Land, is a live compilation recording that documents this extraordinary study and performance tour to Hungary.
The Augustana Choir: Mannskor
Picture
https://www.ualberta.ca/augustana/programs/degree/music/choral/index.html
The non-auditioned ensemble, Mannskor, encourages lower voiced singers from the Augustana Campus and beyond to explore the joy and comradery of choral singing.

Through diverse repertoire drawn from the bountiful lower voice choral tradition, choristers from Mannskor, are led to improve vocal technique and choral musicianship skills. Mannskor serves to build strong relationships between Augustana students, staff, faculty, and members of the University and Camrose communities.

Mannskor is  directed by Dr. John Wiebe and  rehearses for 120 minutes once weekly, and typically performs in two Augustana concerts and one choral festival annually.

All lower voiced singers are welcome to sing in this choir, regardless of their musical background. New members are accepted in September and January. For more information about this ensemble, contact [email protected]
The Augustana Choir: Sangkor

Sangkor (pronounced sahng-koor) draws its name from the Norwegian "song choir". This treble ensemble, directed by Dr. John Wiebe,  is non-auditioned and open to students studying in all disciplines, as well as to members of the community.

Through the exploration of music from a variety of times and places, the choir endeavours to develop a broader sense of cultural awareness and cultivates in its members a deeper appreciation for the richness of the choral art. In addition, strong emphasis is placed on the development of the vocal instrument and gaining an understanding of foundational musical concepts.

The choir rehearses for 120 minutes once weekly, and typically performs in two Augustana concerts and one choral festival annually.

All treble voices are welcome to sing in this choir, regardless of their musical background. New members are accepted in September and January. For more information about this ensemble, contact [email protected]
