Apply for an audition

The Alberta Youth Choir is the province’s honour choir for singers ages 16-22, and provides a unique opportunity for outstanding young singers to join forces in the pursuit of choral music excellence. The guest conductor for AYC 2023 is award-winning artistic director Robert Filion.

ALL SINGERS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16 AND 22 ARE INVITED TO APPLY FOR AN AYC AUDITION!

Acceptance into AYC is by a two-stage process outlined below.

Step 1: Apply for an audition

Singers can apply for an AYC audition by submitting the form below. The deadline to apply for an audition is April 30, 2023.
APPLY NOW
Important: If your conductor has recommended you for an audition and you have already completed an Intention to Audition form, you DO NOT need to apply here. You will receive an email containing the Audition Packet once your teacher has submitted your form.

Step 2: Record your audition

Once your application form (or your conductor's recommendation form) has been received, an Audition Packet will be sent to you by email. The packet contains detailed instructions on how to record your audition, how to upload your videos, and where to submit your audition.

The audition is made up of:
  • two simple vocal exercises;
  • a rhythmic exercise;
  • a prepared piece of your choice (this can be your voice part in a piece your choir recently sang);
  • a new piece (we will provide the score);
  • a brief questionnaire.
Choristers submit all their audition materials online – nothing is mailed in.

The deadline to submit audition materials is May 23, 2023.

The AYC Roster will be announced in early June.  The registration fee is $350, payable after official acceptance into the choir.  Bursaries are available, please contact the office at programs[at]choiralberta.ca/780-488-7464 for more info.
