What is Run For Music?
Run For Music is a fundraising and advocacy project of Choir Alberta. Participants will take part in a 5 km run, a 5km walk, or a 10 km run either at a designated park in Edmonton, or using a route of their choosing. Unique in its design, while advocating for the unique value of choral music, funds raised through Run For Music pledges are split between participating choirs and Choir Alberta.

If you're not a walker or runner but would like to be involved, sign up to be part of the team of volunteers! Volunteer information is typically released a month in advance of Run For Music each year.

How does it work?
Run For Music raises money for individual choirs and for Choir Alberta programs that support Alberta's choirs (like Choralfest, the Alberta Youth Choir, the choral library, workshops, etc.).

The more a team is able to raise, the larger the bursary the choir receives — for $501-1000, a team receives 30%; for $1001-2500, a team receives 40%; for $2501-5000, a team receives 50%; for $5001-7500, a team receives 60%, and for $7501+, a team receives 70%! To qualify for a bursary, teams must raise at least $500.

What's the first step?
Start by inviting individuals from your choir to join the RFM team. It is helpful to appoint an enthusiastic Team Captain early on in the process to help with recruitment and organization. From there, sign up! Once your team is registered, we will walk you through the rest.

Creating your choir's team.
  • All participants will sign up as part of their choir's team.
  • Teams can be made up of singers, family, friends, and other supporters.
  • Teams require a minimum of 5 members; there is no maximum team size.
  • Each team will appoint a Team Captain who will serve as the primary point of contact with Choir Alberta.
  • Members can be added to the team until 2 weeks before the event.

Signing up.
  • Team Captains or another representative will register the team online.
  • A registration fee of $65 per team is payable by credit card at the time of registration.
  • An email address for each team member is required.
  • You can make changes to your team's fundraising page any time after you register.
Garnering pledges.
  • Shortly after registering, a representative from Choir Alberta will contact the Team Captain about the team's fundraising goal. A goal that totals $100 or more per team member is encouraged.
  • Choir Alberta will provide a suite of fundraising resources including email templates, graphics, and social media posts.
  • Team members work alongside choir members to garner pledges and reach their fundraising goal.
  • Tax receipts are issued for all pledges of $20 or more.

Collecting + submitting pledges.
  • Pledges can be collected through your team's fundraising page (using credit cards or PayPal) or via a paper pledge form.
  • Cheques should be made out to Choir Alberta.
  • Cash/cheques must be received in the Choir Alberta office along with a reconciled paper pledge form before the event date.

What happens on the day of Run For Music?

RFM at the Park

  • A warm-up will take place at 10:15 a.m.
  • Participants will enjoy Music on the Run performances along the route.
